Developmental Edit

What is a developmental edit?

Like an editorial assessment, a developmental edit is a detailed overview of each of the big-picture elements of your book, including plot, characterisation, structure, style, consistency, etc. The bulk of the feedback is delivered via a summary report.

In addition to the  report, this service includes line editing. Using Tracked Changes, the editor will offer notes and recommendations about everything from single word choices and idea expressions to your structure and style throughout the manuscript.

  • In-depth report
  • Focus on big-picture elements
  • Notes on plot, style, characters, etc.
  • Includes optional video call
  • Line editing

When to order a developmental edit?

This service is highly suited to authors who have finished the first or second drafts of their book and who now want professional advice about what works well and there are missed opportunities to improve the book as a whole.

This service should not be confused with copy-editing or proofreading. A developmental edit focuses on big-picture aspects, rather than smaller corrections, like spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
